West Wins Cal’s First ACC Title
Bears Break 2 Program Records, Move Back Into Second
ATLANTA – Two school records and the first individual ACC title in program history were captured by the No. 5 California women's swimming & diving team on Friday, the penultimate day of the 2026 ACC Championships at McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
After six days of competition the Golden Bears, who ended day five in third place, have pulled back into second place with 860.5 points. Five-time defending national champion No. 1 Virginia (1028.5) paces the field and No. 2 Stanford (798) sits in third.
Sophomore
Mia West (1:51.52) used the second-fastest 200-yard butterfly time in Cal history to become the Bear to become an ACC champion. West out touched Virginia's Tess Howley by 0.08 seconds to add to her already successful week that includes a third-place finish in the 200 IM yesterday.
Cal picked some solid points in that race with
Lilou Ressencourt (1:54.92) tying for sixth,
Ava Chavez (1:55.21) finishing eighth, and
Annie Jia (1:53.63) winning the B final with a time that would've placed her in sixth in the A final.
Sophomore
Mary-Ambre Moluh found the podium in the 100 backstroke by breaking her own school record that she set back in the Fall of 2024. Her time of 49.64 was good for bronze.
Freshman
Elle Scott was the next to make history by breaking the program's 100 breaststroke record, which was only a few weeks old as it was set by fellow freshman
Silje Slyngstadli on January 31. Scott's record time of 58.19 earned her a sixth-place finish.
The quartet of
Teagan O'Dell, Slyngstadli, Jia, and Moluh finished off the night with a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay with the fourth-fastest time in program history at 3:27.15.
The ACC Championships conclude tomorrow on the seventh day of competition which features the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 1,650 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 6:30 a.m. PT and finals start at 2:30 p.m. PT on ACCNX.
