Bears Record Second-Highest Score Of 2026

Cal Closes Friday Night’s Meet With Its Highest Floor Score Of The Season

BERKELEY – No. 16 California women's gymnastics recorded its second-highest score of the season on Friday night in Haas Pavilion, putting up a 197.075 overall score. The Golden Bears were the runners-up in the Cal Tri Meet, with No. 10 Stanford clinching the win with a 197.625 and San Jose State coming in third with a 196.075.
 
Jayden Silvers paced the Bears in the first rotation, scoring a season-high 9.875 on vault, which was good for a share of third-place on the event. Kyen Mayhew and Annalise Newman-Achee each posted a 9.850 to round out the rotation, with the Bears totaling a 49.200 on the event. It was their second-highest vault score of the season. Stanford took the lead at the end of the first rotation, which it would hold onto throughout the entirety of the meet.
 
Tonya Paulsson highlighted the Bears' bars rotation, setting a new career high with a 9.975 and winning the event title. It was her eighth bars score that has gone 9.925 or higher this season. She entered the meet ranked fourth in the nation on the event. Newman-Achee received a 9.900, which was good for a share of third on the event, and Casey Brown notched a 9.850 to round out the Bears' top three scores on bars.
 
Newman-Achee and Sarah Lee each scored a 9.875 on balance beam to lead the rotation for Cal. The duo shared third place on the event with Stanford's Temple Landry. The Bears put together a 49.025 on beam as a team.
 
Cal bounced back in the final rotation, putting up three 9.900s in a row from Silvers, Kyen Mayhew and CJ Keuneke and seeing Paulsson anchor with a career-high matching 9.925. Silvers' score was a new career-best while Newman-Achee's was a career-high tying score. Mayhew's score matched her season high. The trio shared second place on the event, with Paulsson sitting atop the podium. Brown was the leadoff routine, and she matched her career high with a 9.850. The Bears compiled their best floor score of the season with a 49.500.
 
Newman-Achee took silver in the all-around with a personal-best 39.500. She entered the meet ranked tied for 18th in the nation in the all-around.
 
With tonight's meet, the Bears close out conference competition with a 4-2 record, which ties with NC State for runner-up in the regular-season conference standings behind Stanford.
 
The Bears will return to action Sunday afternoon for their senior day celebration at the Cal Quad Meet. The competition will begin at 2 p.m. PT and will include a special ceremony honoring Cal's seniors at the conclusion of the meet.
