Bears Win Men’s, Women’s Hammer On Day 1
Kai Barham, Adrianna Coleman Take Victories At Cal Invitational
BERKELEY – The California track & field team's hammer throwers kicked off their outdoor season Friday at Edwards Stadium for the first day of the Cal Invitational, sweeping both the men's and women's competitions to set the tone for the Golden Bears as they ready themselves for another successful campaign.
For the women, junior
Adrianna Coleman picked up right where she left off after an impressive indoor season, posting a personal-best 62.49m (205-0) to improve her own program No. 9 all-time entry and clinch her fifth event title of the year. Senior
Audrey Jacobs finished second at 61.44m (201-7), while junior
Angie Schykerynec and redshirt junior
Isabella Popejoy placed fourth and fifth with personal records of 55.77m (182-11) and 55.67m (182-7), respectively.
On the men's side, sophomore
Kai Barham posted four throws over 61 meters, including a massive personal-best 63.80m (209-4) in his fifth attempt to clinch his first event win. Redshirt freshman
Miles Clark surpassed the 60-meter barrier four times, with a best mark of 61.39m (201-5) that was good for second place and a personal record of his own, while senior
Kai Burich took fourth with a throw of 58.54m (192-0).
