Bears' Comeback Bid Comes Up Short
Cal Forced 3rd Set On 4 Courts
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — In their third straight matchup against a ranked opponent, the California Golden Bears (12-9, 4-4) dropped their match to No. 22 Notre Dame (16-4, 6-2 ACC) 4-0 on Sunday morning.
In doubles play, the Bears found themselves in tight contests on each court. On Court 2, Tiago Silva and Alex Aney fought to a 4-4 tie before falling 6-4. Then on Court 1, Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski and Timofey Stepanov battled to tie their match but ultimately lost 6-4. Court 3 went unfinished with a 5-5 tie.
Down 1-0, the Bears entered singles play looking for momentum. After dropping points on Courts 2Â and 3, the Bears still had an opportunity to claw back to a victory. Cal forced a third set on Courts 1, 4, 5 and 6 before losing on Court 1Â to surrender its fourth point to the Irish.
