Pair Of Cal Gymnasts Named Regular-Season All-Americans

Jasper Smith-Gordon, Matteo Bardana Recognized As Best In Nation

Two athletes from the California men's gymnastics team have been selected CGA Regular-Season All-Americans, determined by occupying one of the top-eight spots on the Road to Nationals rankings in at least one event at the conclusion of the regular season. Redshirt senior Jasper Smith-Gordon picked up his third such award on vault (having also been recognized in 2023-24), while sophomore Matteo Bardana (all-around) made his debut on the list. This marks the second time that two Golden Bears have received the honor since its inception in 2023.

Smith-Gordon ended the regular season as the nation's top vaulter, with a four-score average of 14.300 and a best performance of 14.550, which he achieved in January at the Stanford Open. In total, he has won four event titles this season – three of those on vault – and has four of the top-five vault scores by any Bear this season as well as a share of the team's top pommel horse score. Smith-Gordon is also a recipient of the 2026 ACC Excellence Award, which honors outstanding graduating student-athletes in the ACC that embody the "student-athlete ideal." He owns the program record on vault in both the modern scoring era and previous scoring era.

Bardana likewise finished the regular season with a No. 1 ranking in his category, bearing a four-score average of 77.250 (and a high of 78.050 at the Stanford International Collegiate) as well as top-25 rankings on floor (No. 13) and high bar (No. 19). This is his first All-America award of any kind and his first season competing collegiately in all six events, having done so in each of the past four weeks while earning CGA Gymnast of the Week recognition March 4. Bardana, a member of the Canadian Senior Next Gen National Team, won four age-group gold medals at the Elite Canada meet in February. He posted a new modern-era high bar program record of 13.550 in Cal's season opener as well as a modern program floor record of 14.200 at the Stanford Quad Meet on March 14.

Smith-Gordon, Bardana and the Bears will compete one more time at Haas Pavilion this year as the team hosts Oklahoma, Stanford and Air Force for the MPSF Championships on April 4. The former gymnast will be attempting to defend his 2025 conference title on vault, while the latter will seek his first MPSF podium after being named all-conference in his rookie year.
