Sophomore Claims 200 Breast Title With Second-Fastest Time In Program History

ATLANTA – The California men's swimming and diving team sits in sixth place overall after day three of the NCAA Championships.

The day was highlighted by Yamato Okadome, who captured his second national title in as many days. The sophomore won the 200-yard breaststroke in 1:48.61, the second-fastest time in program history, completing a sweep of the breaststroke events.

Okadome also contributed to a strong showing in the 400-yard medley relay. Evan Petty, Casper Puggaard, Martin Wrede and Okadome earned First Team All-American honors with a time of 3:00.41, the fifth-fastest in school history.

Wrede and Lucca Battaglini each collected Second Team All-American honors in the 50-yard freestyle, tying with identical 18.88 finishes, a mark that ranks seventh in program history.

Ryan Erisman added another Second Team All-American honor in the 500-yard freestyle, placing fifth in 4:11.43.

Keaton Jones and Petty rounded out the Bears' All-American performances. Jones posted a 4:12.75 in the 500-yard freestyle, while Petty recorded a 44.50 in the 100-yard backstroke.

The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday with day four of competition, featuring the 200 IM, 100 free, 200 fly, 200 back, 400 free relay and platform diving. Prelims begin at 7 a.m. PT, with finals set for 3 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
