Cal Ousted By NC State In ACC Quarterfinals

CARY, N.C. — The 21st-ranked and sixth-seeded California women's tennis team fell to 13th-ranked and third-seeded NC State 4-0 in the ACC Championship quarterfinals on Friday evening to end the Golden Bears' run in the conference tournament.
 
Cal leaves Cary Tennis Park with a 12-7 record, while NC State (20-7) advances to Saturday's semifinals.
 
The Wolfpack clinched the doubles point with a win on Court 1, where Cal's 56th-ranked Mao Mushika and Johanne Svendsen lost to fourth-ranked Victoria Osuigwe and Gabriella Broadfoot 6-3.
 
In singles, Cal dropped five of six first sets, with 34th-ranked Svendsen winning her first set against 43rd-ranked Mia Slama 6-3 on Court 1. NC State won three consecutive matches, clinching its victory over the Bears when Osuigwe defeated 113th-ranked Naomi Xu 6-4, 6-1 on Court 5.
 
Cal now awaits the announcement of the NCAA Championship field, with the national team tournament slated to begin May 1.
