Cal Selected To Columbus Regional

Bears Return To Postseason For 4th Straight Year

BERKELEY- California men's golf will make its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Regional and 27th in program history as it earned an at-large bid to the 2026 Columbus Regional on Wednesday. The Golden Bears will be the eighth seed in the 13-team, 54-hole regional, hosted at the Scarlett Course at Ohio State University Golf Club from May 18-20.

The low five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team at each of the six NCAA Regional sites across the country will advance to a field of 30 teams and six additional individuals that will play in the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad on May 23-28.

"The regional is one of my favorite tournaments of the year," Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Michael Wilson said. "Everyone goes back to zero with the best five teams from each of the six sites advancing to the national championship. It's fantastic preparation for nationals."

"We are excited to compete at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State," Wilson added. "The team has been working hard and is trending in a great direction for postseason play. We can't wait to get out to Columbus."

The Bears have made 26 previous NCAA Regional appearances dating back to 1990, including a stretch of 10 consecutive years from 2007-16. Their current streak of four straight appearances dating back to 2023 is tied for the second-longest stretch in program history. Cal has won two NCAA Regionals – in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013 – while alumnus Michael Weaver (2009-14) is the program's only NCAA Regional individual winner, having earned co-medalist honors in 2013.

The Bears have advanced to the NCAA Championships 16 times in program history, most recently last year when they placed 17th in Carlsbad.

The Bears are ranked 48th nationally (Scoreboard) and are coming off the ACC Championship last week in Panama City, Fla. Cal finished in 12th place out of 15 teams while sophomore Ziqin Zhou won the individual championship, defeating Stanford's Edan Cui and Duke's Ethan Evans in a two-hole playoff to win Cal's first individual ACC title. Zhou is the fifth Cal golfer to win an individual conference title and first since Collin Morikawa won the 2019 Pac 12 Championship.

Tee times, pairings and further information about the Columbus Regional will be released at a later date.
