Five California men's rowers have earned Empacher-IRCA All-America recognitions, announced today by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Alexander Baroni, Gennaro di Mauro and Pablo Moreno were first-team selections, while Noah Anger and Maximilian Pfautsch got the second-team nod.

This marks the fourth IRCA All-America First Team recognition for di Mauro, and second All-American nod for Anger and Baroni, who were both first-team selections in 2024. Moreno and Pfautsch are first-time honorees in 2026. Cal ties with Washington and Princeton for most recognitions, with each program tallying five.

All five Golden Bears rowed in Cal's 2026 varsity eight, which notched several wins against top opponents – including No. 4 Princeton, No. 5 Stanford and No. 11 Yale – during the regular season and took second place in the 2026 IRA National Championship Grand Final. The crew held the national No. 2 ranking for the entirety of 2026 and posted a runner-up finish at the MPSF Championship.

Di Mauro, who primarily competed in the four seat this past season, has enjoyed a prolific rowing career – both in collegiate competition and as an international. He is a four-time IRCA First-Team All-American (2022, '23, '25, '26) and, at the conference level, was named the 2022 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year and to the 2023 All-Pac-12 First Team. Di Mauro also earned his first IRCA Academic All-America recognition this season. He helped Cal win back-to-back IRA National Championships in 2022 and 2023. Di Mauro, a Saint 'Anastasia, Italy native, took the 2024 collegiate season off to train for his appearance for Italy at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It was his second time competing on the world's biggest stage after also competing for Italy at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Di Mauro has featured several times for Italy at World Rowing Cups in the men's eight and single sculls.

Baroni, a native of Perth, Western Australia, rowed primarily in the five seat of the V8+. In addition to his pair of IRCA All-America recognitions, Baroni has collected two all-conference honors (2026 All-ACC & 2024 All-Pac-12). As a freshman in 2023, he rowed in Cal's 3V8+ that won the Stewards Cup as part of the Bears' sweep of the IRA Championships. Baroni has also performed on the international stage, recently representing Australia in the men's four at the 2025 World Rowing Cup II and placing fifth with Team Australia in the men's eight A final at the World Rowing Cup I.

Moreno, a native of Sevilla, Andalucia (Spain) who primarily featured in the Bears' six seat, has earned his first All-America honor after picking up 2026 All-ACC, 2025 and 2026 IRCA Scholar Athlete and 2025 MPSF All-Academic Team recognitions, in addition to placements on the 2023 and 2024 Pac-12 Academic Honor Rolls. Moreno was a part of Cal's 2023 IRA Championship squad as a rower in the 3V8+ that won the Stewards Cup. He earned a spot in the first varsity eight as a 2024 sophomore and in the postseason of his junior year in 2025. On the international stage, Moreno has featured for Spain in the 2022 and 2025 U23 World Championships. He won silver for Spain in the men's four in 2025.

Anger, who sat in the third seat for the majority of the season, is a native of Ulm, Germany. In addition to his pair of IRCA All-America selections, Anger was named to the 2025 MPSF All-Academic team. The junior has rowed in the Bears' top varsity eight for the majority of his career in Berkeley, contributing to Cal's 2025 MPSF Championship title and third-place finish at the 2024 IRA Championships. Anger rows for Team Germany on the international stage, recently helping Germany win the bronze medal in the men's eight at the 2025 U23 World Rowing Championships.

Pfautsch, who hails from Weissenfels, Germany, earned a spot in the first varsity eight boat this season after primarily rowing in the second varsity eight his first two seasons in Berkeley. He sat in the stroke seat for both the conference and national championship regattas. Pfautsch joined Anger in winning the bronze at the 2025 U23 World Championship for team Germany's men's eight and also competed in the 2024 U23 World Championships. Additionally, Pfautsch helped Germany win gold in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2024 U23 World Championships.
