Frederick Breuer ('25) among 17-man contingent representing Cal at 2026 senior world championships.
The California men's rowing program will have a large presence at the 2026 World Rowing Championships with 17 former Golden Bears set to represent 10 different nations at the senior international competition. The event will be held August 24-30 at the historic Bosbaan rowing course in Amsterdam.
Frederik Breuer ('25) and Leonard Brahms ('25) will compete for Germany, with Breuer set for the men's 8+ while Brahms will feature in both the men's pair and mixed 8+ events. Breuer has returned to the international stage this summer for the first time since his 2024 Paris Olympics appearance in which he helped Germany's men's eight to a fourth-place finish. At Cal, Breuer was a two-time national champion in 2022 and 2023 and, in 2025, was named MPSF Athlete of the Year and an IRCA First Team All-American. Brahms will be making his senior worlds debut after competing at the World Rowing Cups I and III and the European Championships earlier this summer. While at Cal, Brahms featured on Germany's U23 crew in 2022 and 2023 and primarily rowed in the Bears' 2V8+ and the 3V8+, helping the junior varsity crew take third at the 2025 IRA Championships.
For New Zealand, Ollie Maclean ('23) and Campbell Crouch ('23) will both row in the men's eight while Maclean will also add the men's four event. Maclean last competed internationally at the 2024 Paris Olympics where he won the silver medal in the men's four event. This will be his second senior worlds appearance after taking bronze in the men's four in 2023. While at Cal, Maclean won back-to-back Pac-12 Men's Rowing Athlete of the Year recognitions in 2022 and 2023 and was twice named an IRCA First Team All-American and helped the V8+ win the national titles the same years. Crouch will be making his second senior worlds appearance after taking bronze with New Zealand's mixed 8+ crew and finishing as the runner-up in the men's four B final. While in Berkeley, Crouch helped the Bears' varsity 8+ win back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023 and Pac-12 conference titles in the same years, landing him an all-conference nod in 2022.
Angus Dawson ('25) Jack Robertson ('21) and Harry Manton ('25) will compete for Australia in the men's pair, men's 8+ and men's four, respectively. Alexander Baroni ('26) has also been named a spare. Dawson – a two-time Olympian – will make his third senior worlds appearance after helping the Aussie men's 8+ take third in 2023 and fourth in 2025. Dawson is a two-time national champion with Cal and earned three IRCA First Team All-America awards during his time in Berkeley. 2024 Paris Olympian Robertson is also bound for his third senior worlds appearance in the men's 8+ event. He helped the Bears win silver at both the Pac-12 Championships and IRA Championship in 2021 and was named to the All-Pac-12 Team and the IRCA All-America First Team. Manton will make his second appearance at senior worlds after also rowing in the Australia men's 8+ in 2025. While at Cal, Manton helped the varsity eight claim the inaugural MPSF Championship title in 2025 and was named All-MPSF the same year. Baroni split time between the V8+ and 2V8+ while at Cal and earned 2026 All-MPSF and 2024 IRCA All-American First Team honors.
Wilson Morton ('25) and Nathan Phelps ('24) will compete for the United States' men's eight while Gus Rodriguez ('23) will feature in Team USA's men's four and mixed 8+ events. This will be Rodriguez's third World Rowing Championships appearance after helping the U.S. win bronze in the men's eight and finish fifth in the men's four B final in 2025 and take fourth in the men's four in 2022. Rodriguez spent his graduate season with Cal in 2023, helping the Bears' varsity eight win the IRA National title and the Pac-12 Championship. Morton is making his senior worlds debut after competing in the U23 iterations of the event from 2023-25. Morton was a part of the junior varsity eight that won gold in 2023 as part of Cal's historic sweep of the IRA National Championships. Phelps will join Team USA for the second-consecutive senior worlds after helping the U.S. take fourth in the men's quadruple sculls last year. Phelps spent his graduate year in Berkeley in 2024 and helped the Bears' junior varsity take second at the Pac-12 Championships.
Wibout Rustenburg ('21) will compete for the host country in the men's eight after previously helping The Netherlands win gold at last year's senior worlds. This summer, Rustenburg has rowed in the first-place men's 8+ crews at both the World Rowing Cup I and III events. Rustenburg spent one season with the Bears in which he helped Cal place second in the varsity eight at the 2021 IRA Championships and was named to the inaugural IRCA All-America Second Team.
Martin Mackovic ('18) is no stranger to competition on the world stage having featured for Serbia in four World Rowing Championships (2019, '22, '23, '25). He will compete in the men's double sculls again this year after winning the silver medal at last year's senior worlds. Mackovic is a two-time Olympian who competed at the 2020 Tokyo Games and in Paris in 2024. During his collegiate years, Mackovic helped Cal's varsity eight take bronze at the 2018 IRA Championships and earned an all-conference recognition the same season.
Kazmir Ziven Kujda ('24) is set for his second senior worlds with Team Poland, last helping his country take fifth in the men's eight at the 2025 World Rowing Championship. While at Cal, Kudja helped the Bears' varsity four place second at the Pac-12 Championships and fifth at the national championships in 2024.
Josh Knight ('26) will make his World Rowing Championship debut for Great Britain in the men's double sculls. Earlier this summer, he took fifth at the World Rowing Cup III in the same event. Knight spent his graduate year with the Bears this past season, helping the junior varsity eight notch second place at the MPSF Championship and fifth at nationals.
Gennaro di Mauro ('26) and Tim Roth ('26) have been named spares for Italy and Switzerland, respectively. Di Mauro has featured for Italy in two Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 – and several World Championships, World Rowing Cups and European Championships. Roth competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics for Switzerland and has also made multiple appearances at various world competitions. Both Di Mauro and Roth were a part of Cal's back-to-back IRA Championship titles in the varsity eight in 2022 and 2023 and notched multiple IRCA All-American and All-Conference honors throughout their time in Berkeley.
The world champions of 12 heavyweight Olympic boat classes – six for men and six for women – will be crowned. Fans can find the complete schedule and follow live results on
