Biography

Cal Success:

  • Finished his Cal career as a senior in 2017-18 with another tremendous season, earning All-America honors in the 100 fly, 50 free (HM), 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
  • Teamed with Daniel Carr, Connor Hoppe and Ryan Hoffer to set an American record in the 200 medley relay at the 2018 NCAA Championships. Swam the butterfly leg in 19.77 to help the quartet stop the clock in 1:21.88 and eclipse the previous record of 1:22.40 held by Cal's Ryan Murphy, Chuck Katis, Lynch and Tyler Messerschmidt.
  • Scored 15 individual points at the 2018 NCAA Championships, placing seventh in the 100 fly and 14th in the 50 free. Also helped Cal score points in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.
  • Won two individual titles at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, swimming to victories in the 100 free and 100 fly. Also a member of Cal's winning relay efforts in the 200 free relay and both medley relays.
  • Named Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month for December, 2017 after winning the 100 free and swimming on four winning relays at the Georgia Fall Invitational.
  • At the conclusion of his Cal career, ranked fifth in school history in the 50 free (19.00), fifth in the 100 free (41.97), third in the 100 fly (45.02).
  • Also ended his career as one of Cal's all-time great relay swimmers and at the time of his graduation was a member of the Bears' top-ranked quartet in all four relays he swam (200 medley, 400 medley, 200 free, 400 free).
  • Set a school record in the 200 medley relay every year he competed at Cal and when he graduated was a part of the top four times in school history in the event.
  • Enjoyed another standout season as a junior in 2016-17, scoring in the 50 free and 100 fly at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
  • Won the "B" final in the 100 fly at the 2017 NCAA Championships, swimming to a time of 45.41 that scored nine team points.
  • Also competed on the 200 free, 400 free and 200 medley relays for the Bears at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
  • Helped the Bears win Pac-12 titles in the 200 free and 200 medley relays in 2017.
  • Set Cal's top time in the 100 free in 2017 with a mark of 42.38 at the Pac-12 Championships.
  • Claimed his first individual Pac-12 title as a sophomore in 2016, winning the 100 butterfly with a time of 45.62. Also swam a leg on Cal's title-winning teams in the 400 free and 400 medley relays.
  • Competed in the 50 and 100 free as well as the 100 fly at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Won a swim-off to make the "B" final of the 100 fly and scored seven big points for the Bears by placing second in the heat later that night.
  • Owned Cal's top times in three different events (50 and 100 free, 100 fly) in 2016 and swam on four of the team's five relay teams at the NCAA Championships.
  • Won an NCAA title and Pac-12 championship in his first collegiate season, swimming the butterfly leg on the Bears' 200 medley relay team that set an American record with a time of 1:22.40 to win the national title.
  • Contributed in both the butterfly and freestyle as a freshman in 2015 and had the team's second-fastest time in the 100 butterfly (46.22), third-fastest in the 200 butterfly (1:43.03) and fifth-fastest in the 50 freestyle (19.72).
  • Competed in those three individual events as well as the relay at the 2015 NCAA championships.

High School/Club/National Success:

  • Native of Vallejo, Calif. competed for the Terrapins Swim Team in Concord, Calif.
  • Set the 15-16 year old national age group record in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 52.75 at the 2013 World Championship Trials in Indianapolis. That swim topped Michael Phelps' 2001 age-group mark of 52.98 that stood for 12 years.
  • Member of the Junior National team that competed at the 2013 World Championships in Dubai and won a bronze medal in the 100 butterfly.
  • Won gold in the 100 butterfly and silver in the 200 butterfly at the 2013 Junior Nationals.
