Biography

Spring 2021: Was 14-8 in singles (11-8 on court two) and 10-7 in doubles in the spring 2021 season…clinched six Cal victories, including the program’s first Pac-12 tournament championship…in the conference tournament final vs. UCLA, Rosenqvist defeated Elysia Bolton, 6-7, 7-5, 6-1, at court-three singles to wrap up a 4-2 win over the top-seeded Bruins…the Swede also clinched Cal victories over Pacific, Utah, Arizona State, Washington and Oregon, with the win over the Ducks’ Rifanty Kahfiani, 7-6(3), 6-4, coming in the Pac-12 tournament quarterfinals…teamed with Erin Richardson to post a 6-2 doubles record…the duo beat Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson, 7-6(6), to clinch the doubles point of an eventual 4-3 win over No. 3 UCLA on Feb. 20 in Berkeley.

Spring 2020: Compiled a 15-7 singles record and a 13-8 doubles mark in the 2019-20 season…named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll...was ranked 57th in the most recent (March 3) Oracle ITA singles poll...posted wins over two ranked singles opponents in USC’s 44th-ranked Eryn Cayetano, 7-6(7), 5-7, 1-0(9), and No. 63 Sonia Smagina of Kansas, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1…went 3-0 in singles to repeat as the Cal Winter Invitational champion…partnered with Jasie Dunk to clinch the doubles point in Cal’s 7-0 rout of San Diego State in the Bears’ home dual-match opener, with the duo topping Julia Jordan and Tamara Arnold, 7-5, on court two…posted an 8-5 doubles record with Dunk...didn’t drop a set in going 3-0 in singles in the Cal Winter Invitational, with the Swede beating Jordan Harris of Saint Mary’s, 6-1, 6-1, the Gaels’ Danielle McIntyre, 6-2, 6-3, and Cal Poly’s Susanne Boyden, 6-1, 6-1.

Fall 2019: Ranked 45th in the last Oracle ITA singles poll of the fall…posted a singles record of 9-3 and a doubles record of 8-3…began the season by winning the top-flight singles and doubles championships in the Cal Fall Invitational…in the singles final, Rosenqvist beat 15th-ranked Mariia Kozyreva of Saint Mary’s, 6-4, 6-3, and in the doubles final, the pair of Rosenqvist and Jasie Dunk edged teammates Anna Bright and Erin Richardson, 8-7(5)…competed in singles in the inaugural Women’s Collegiate Classic…reached the singles round of 32 in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships…won three straight in singles in the fall-ending ASU Thunderbird Invitational…in doubles at regionals, Rosenqvist paired with Valentina Ivanov to reach the round of 16, and in doubles at the Women’s Collegiate Classic, she teamed with Haley Giavara to go 1-1…Rosenqvist again partnered with Dunk in the ASU Thunderbird Invite and posted a 2-1 record.

Spring 2019: Completed her second season as a Bear with a 24-18 singles record and 17-15 doubles record…earned All-Pac-12 Second-Team selection…twice named the Pac-12 Player of the Week…reached the NCAA Singles Championship for the second consecutive season, beating Central Florida’s 40th-ranked Valeryia Zeleva, 6-0, 6-2, in the opening round of 64 and falling to the 13th-ranked Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the round of 32…Rosenqvist was ranked 41st in singles during NCAAs, with the last singles poll coming out on May 29…she also partnered with Hana Mraz to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship for the first time, with the sophomore Bears – ranked 20th – falling in a close match to N.C. State’s seventh-ranked Anna Rogers and Alana Smith, 6-7(4), 6-3, 1-0(8), in the opening round of 32…in Cal’s 4-2 win over Long Beach State in the NCAA team tournament, Rosenqvist defeated Wiktoria Rutkowska, 6-1, 6-0, at court-one singles…won several matches against ranked singles opponents including Vanderbilt’s third-ranked Fernanda Contreras, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, South Carolina’s 12th-ranked Ingrid Gamarra-Martins, 7-5, 6-1, USC’s 34th-ranked Salma Ewing, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0(5) and Washington’s 95th-ranked Stacey Fung, 6-4, 6-4…with Mraz, upset UCLA’s then-eighth-ranked Gabby Andrews and Ayan Broomfield, 7-6(3), during the regular season…the Bruins went on to win the NCAA doubles championship…Rosenqvist and Mraz also upset Pepperdine’s top-ranked Ashley Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova, 6-3, and Arizona State’s sixth-ranked Ilze Hattingh and Lauryn-John Baptiste, 6-2, during the regular season.

Fall 2018: Compiled an 11-6 singles record and a 5-3 doubles record…Rosenqvist and Olivia Hauger were ranked 33rd in the first Oracle ITA doubles poll of the season…they reached the doubles quarterfinals of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, round of 16 in the Riviera ITA All-American Championships and final of the Cal Fall Invitational…in singles, Rosenqvist was ranked 28th in September’s Oracle ITA poll and then 47th in November…she qualified for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in singles, reached the singles round of 16 in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and advanced to the consolation singles quarterfinals in the Riviera ITA All-American Championships…posted several good wins over ranked opponents in the All-American, including an upset of Clemson’s 14th-ranked Marie Leduc, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, in the singles consolation round of 16 and – in singles qualifying – a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Boston College’s 116th-ranked Yufei Long, a 6-0, 6-4 victory over 43rd-ranked Maria Kononova of North Texas and a 7-6(4), 6-1 result over N.C. State’s 66th-ranked Anna Rogers to reach the main draw.

Spring 2018: Competed in the NCAA Singles Championship, falling to Oklahoma State’s Megan McCray, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 64; named to the All-Pac-12 First Team; and earned a No. 44 final singles ranking in her first semester at Cal…was ranked as high as 34th in singles…posted a 13-10 singles record and a 13-10 doubles record…named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on March 13 after posting upset wins in singles and doubles vs. USC on March 9 and UCLA on March 10…including the 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over USC’s 37th-ranked Gabby Smith and a 6-3, 6-4 win over UCLA’s Ena Shibahara, Rosenqvist posted four straight upsets of higher-ranked players with a Feb. 24 win over the Bruins’ 73rd-ranked Terri Fleming, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, and a March 3 victory over Pepperdine’s 13th-ranked Ashley Lahey, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4…paired with Olivia Hauger to finish the season with a No. 76 doubles ranking…among the duo’s upset wins were a 6-1 result over USC’s 43rd-ranked Angela Kulikov and Rianna Valdes on March 9 and a 6-4 victory over UCLA’s 22-ranked Fleming and Jada Hart on March 10…Rosenqvist and Hauger were ranked as high as 36th in doubles.

Political economy major…joined Cal at the start of the 2018 spring semester…competed in several tournaments on the ITF Women’s Circuit in 2017…reached the doubles semifinals of a $15,000 tournament in South Africa in November and the doubles semis of a $15,000 tournament in Stockholm in October…played singles in the 2016 Wimbledon Junior Championships…reached the singles quarterfinals and the doubles round of 32 at the 2015 European Junior Championships…aspires to claim the WTA’s No. 1 singles ranking…has a sister, Annie, 23…her uncle, Jörgen Nilsson, played professional tennis…hobbies include cooking and traveling…played soccer from ages 6-12…also used to sail.
