Transferred after competing at Temple as a freshman...co-captain his senior year...won an individual national championship on rings to finish his senior year in style...Cal head coach Weiner noted that Roth matured after coming to Cal...did a very difficult dismount on rings.
2009: Roth set three new career highs to end his years at Cal on a high note...in the qualifier, he scored a 14.700 on floor and 16.100 on vault, on which he placed third overall...his national-championship winning 15.600 on rings in the individual round was a new career high...Roth won his first-ever national championship on still rings in the individual portion of the NCAA championships...Roth's title was his first and the 29th individual title in program history...All-American on rings and vault...the 15.600 on rings that earned him a national championship was the highest any Bear scored all year on rings...additionally, his 16.100 on vault in the team championships was also a season team high.
2008: Put forth the best performance on rings for the Bear squadron at the Winter Cup Challenge, with a 29.350 for 13th place overall after two days of competing at the prestigious meet...at the Big Flip on March 8 he received 14.850 to set his career best...tied his then-personal best on rings (15.200) on rings to take second against Penn State (March 15)... scored a career high of 15.600 on rings at the NCAA Team Qualifier (April 17)...led the Bears on vault at the NCAA Championships with a 16.150 in the qualifier and 15.600 in the championships...had the team's best result of the year on vault with a 16.150 at the NCAA Team Qualifier (April 17).
2007: Competed in his first year of collegiate gymnastics...established career and seasons highs at the MPSF Championships on floor (9.350) and vault (9.000)...earned valuable experience at NCAA Championships on floor in the team competition and vault, in both the team and individual competitions.
Personal: Competed in the Junior National Championships all four years of high school...has been competing in gymnastics since he was nine-years-old...majored in music...hopes to go into sound design or law after graduation ...member of Gymnastique club team...member of the National Honor Society in high school...parents are Enid and Paul Roth.
