Biography

Graduated in May 2018 with a degree in integrative biology.

Spring 2017:
Posted a 16-9 singles record (6-2 in dual matches) and a 13-15 doubles mark (5-5 in dual matches) for the season…Lin clinched Cal’s 4-3 win at Utah on April 2, beating Taylor Calton, 6-3, 6-4, at court-six singles…won her last two singles matches of the season, defeating Calton and then topping Sacramento State’s Louisa Brunetti, 6-0, 6-0, also on court six…paired with Denise Starr in Cal’s NCAA team tournament opener against San Jose State, but the Golden Bears’ match against Tamara Culibrk and Miyo Kobayashi went unfinished after Cal clinched the point…partnered with Olivia Hauger to clinch the doubles point with a 6-1, court-three win over Washington State’s Ege Tomey and Guzal Yusupova on Senior Day in Berkeley...finished with a career singles record of 35-26 and a career doubles mark of 31-36.

Fall 2016: Finished the fall with an 8-7 singles record…she recorded two wins in the inaugural Hall of Fame/ITA Grass Court Invitational…reached the semis in the Gold Draw at the Cal Nike Fall Invitational before falling in a close 7-6, 7-6 match against Jacqueline Pelletier of Saint Mary’s…overall doubles record of 6-7, playing with different partners…won two matches partnering Maya Jansen at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.

Spring 2016: Fell in the Pac-12 Championships doubles round of 16, with Lin and Audrey Mayer losing to Arizona’s Samantha Czarniak/Camila Westbrooks, 6-4…paired with Lynn Chi to win at No. 3 doubles vs. USC on Feb. 19, beating Madison Westby/Rianna Valdes, 7-5, as part of Cal’s 6-1 victory over the Trojans in Los Angeles…finished 9-10 in singles and 6-11 in doubles for the season.
 
Fall 2015: Posted a 9-7 singles record in the fall…reached the singles round of 32 in the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, posting wins over Eastern Washington’s Carolina Lopez, 6-1, 6-4, in the round of 128 and over Gonzaga’s Samantha Polayes, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, in the round of 64...advanced to the doubles round of 16 in the Northwest regionals, pairing with Mayer to beat Isabella Von Ebbe/Kamila Ecki, 8-7(5), in the round of 64, and Eastern Washington’s Dani Young/Faye Worrall, 8-5, in the round of 32.

Spring 2015: Compiled a singles season/career record of 12-7 and a doubles season/career record of 12-10… won her first two collegiate singles matches in dual-match play, beating Colorado’s Vitaliya Alkhovik, 6-0, 6-0, on March 6 and then beating Utah’s Victoria Robertson, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(10), on March 7…finished as the only Bear unbeaten in singles dual-match play in the 2014-15 season at 2-0…Lin (2-0) and Denise Starr (10-0) were the only Bears unbeaten in Pac-12 singles dual matches this year…posted a 4-3 doubles record with Lyann Hoang.

Fall 2014: Compiled a 5-4 singles record and a 4-3 doubles record (playing with Lyann Hoang in all seven matches) in her first semester as a Golden Bear…her first singles win for the varsity squad was against Parminder Kaur of Saint Mary’s, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(3), in the Cal Nike Fall Invitational…her first doubles win, with Hoang, was a 6-7(4), 6-4, 1-0(8), result against Santa Clara’s Zeina El Tawil/Chelby Cooke also in the Cal Nike Fall Invitational.

Personal/Previous: Integrative biology major…career goal is to become an optometrist…played club tennis during her freshman year at Cal and won the 2014 national championship with the Cal Tennis Club…started playing tennis at 7 due to an asthma attack, which hospitalized her; she needed to participate in an outdoor activity as part of her rehabilitation…captained her Pinole Valley High School varsity team and was her school’s No. 1 singles player…was undefeated in Tri-County Athletic League play from 2009-13…lost only three times in her career…was North Coast Section MVP four straight years… won the 2011 NCS singles championship; took second in the NCS in 2012…was an assistant coach for her high school team in the 2012-13 season…siblings are Suzanne and George…George Lin was a member of the Cal class of 2007 and Suzanne Lin graduated from UC Irvine (’13)...Suzanne Lin played on the club tennis team at UC Irvine…Stephane Lin was born in Oakland, California.
