California Hosts 1st Round NIT Match-up

Bears to face Fresno State Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

BERKELEY - The Cal men's basketball earned a postseason bid in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) Sunday and will host Fresno State at the Oakland Arena Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.

Season ticket holders will be able to purchase their same seat locations and may also purchase as many additional tickets as needed by calling 800-GO BEARS or 510-642-3277 beginning Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Tickets will cost $22.00 each. Seating of extra tickets will be allocated by priority point status in Bear Backers.

Bear Backers who are not season ticket holders may also purchase as many tickets as needed by calling 800-GO BEARS or 510-642-3277.

General public fans who are not season ticket holders can purchase tickets to the NIT through BASS (762-BASS) or at the Oakland Arena ticket office.

This is Cal's fourth appearance in the NIT and first since 1989 when the Bears reached the second round. Cal also played in the NIT in 1986 and 1987.

The Bears are also making their 14th postseason appearance in school history and received their sixth postseason berth of the 1990s.

Cal completed the regular season at 17-11 and tied for fifth in the Pac-10 with an 8-10 mark. Fresno State, which is coached by Jerry Tarkanian, is 21-11 and placed third in the Western Athletic Conference's Pacific Division with a 9-5 mark.
