    CAL HOSTS FIRST OF TWO HOME MEETS
    Due to the ongoing renovation of Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field, the Golden Bears entertain the men's and women's teams from UCLA, Washington and UC Irvine for the first meet at Sacramento State's newly refurbished track at Hornet Stadium. The track is the site of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. The meet will be carried in a one-hour taped-delayed format on FOX Sports Net carriers as the opening meet of the U.S. Collegiate Track and Field series. In the Bay Area, the meet can be seen on April 1 at 7 p.m., April 4, at 10 a.m., and April 22, at 9 p.m.

    NOTING THE COMPETITION
    UCLA - The women finished runner-up at the 1998 NCAA Outdoor Championships and are two-time defending Pac-10 champions. Meanwhile, the men finished sixth in the nation last season and are the defending-conference champion. WASH - The women finished fourth at last year's Pac-10 meet, while the men came in sixth. UCI - Athletes to watch include Christie Engesser in the 800m and Pete Kovacs in the PV.

    UC DAVIS INVITATIONAL REWIND
    The Bears weren't scored in the team competition at this CCAA meet. Individually, the Bear men and women combined for 11 first-place finishes. Freshman Jennifer Joyce led the way with a first-place school record throw of 181-11.0 in the hammer. Dana Lawson won the shot put (43-1) and Reynda King took top honors in the triple jump (39-6). For the men, freshman Jerriod Mack double medaled in the long jump (23-4.5) and the triple jump (49-1.5). The Bears also finished first in the 400m (Jelani Hogg), 1500m (Bolota Asmerom, 3:55.85), 3000mSC (Brian Cooke), 5000m (Steve Immel,), 4X100m relay and discus (Jon Paxton).

    ELISSA RIEDY RETURNS TO LINE-UP THIS WEEKEND
    Senior Elissa Riedy, a two-time All-American, will make her season debut this weekend. She did not compete at the Trojan Invite due to the flu and sat out the Davis meet to prepare for the top competition this weekend.

    KEEP AN EYE ON THE FRESHMEN
    The Bear rookies have recorded Cal's top marks in several events so far this season. Athletes to watch include Mack (LJ/TJ), Marlon Beaver (110mH), Joyce (hammer) and Erin Belger (400m).

    COMING HOME TO SACRAMENTO
    Several Bears compete in front of their hometown Sacramento fans Saturday. Junior Bevan Hart, a 1998 All-American in the decathlon, competed at Christian Brothers HS. Zhauntel Holman, a sophomore sprinter, was one of the area's most decorated athletes while competing at Valley HS. Other local products include freshman Lauren Dudugjiian (Loomis HS) and senior Solomon Kailihiwa (Jesuit HS).

    ONE NCAA PROVISIONAL MARK, THREE NEW PAC-10 QUALIFIERS
    After recording 13 Pac-10 qualifying marks during its first competition, the Bears added three new Pac-10 qualifiers at the UC Davis Invite, where conditions weren't as ideal. The Pac-10 qualifier additions were Coke Edmon in the 400mH (53.43), Maria Lopez in the pole vault (10-11.75) and Reynda King in the triple jump (39-6.0). Joyce's school record throw of 181-11 in the hammer is an NCAA provisional mark.
