Cal Senior Josh Birckelbaw of Elk Grove, California has been named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation gymnast of the week for his quality performance in last week's meet against Stanford.
Birckelbaw recorded three first-place finishes (floor, horse, and h-bar) en route to a season-high 47.625 all-around score for third place despite competing in just five of the six events. He is currently ranked fifth in the nation on the pommel horse with a 9.8 score.
The 1994 graduate of Elk Grove high school was a member of the developmental Team 2000 national squad and competed in the prestigious 1995 World University Games in Japan. He was also the 1994 Junior Olympic all-around champion.
