Men's Soccer Trounces Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Brandon Moggio had two first-half goals and added a third in the second half to lead the University of California to a 6-0 conference victory over California State University, Sacramento Friday afternoon at Hornet Field.

The victory improved Cal to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Sacramento State dropped to 0-7-1 overall and 0-1 in the MPSF.

Moggio put the Golden Bears on the board in the sixth minute when he took a pass from Brian Purcell and was able to score out of a pack of traffic in front of the goal. The senior scored his second goal of the contest at 37:41 and completed the hat trick at 71:21 when he followed up Justin Bell's shot which deflected off the crossbar.

Justin Bell, Chris Roner and Gene Lee also scored for Cal, who put three goals in the net in an 11-minute span late in the second half.

Sacramento State returns to Hornet Field on Sunday to host Stanford University at 4 p.m.
