NOTRE DAME, In. -- Amanda Augustus and Amy Jensen won their second round doubles match against Marquette's Ana Fernandez and Elisa Penalvo, 7-5, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA doubles championships at Notre Dame. Meanwhile, Esther Knox and Anita Kurimay fell to No. 5-8 seed Michelle O and Lauren Nikolaus of William & Mary, 6-4, 6-2.
Augustus and Jensen, ranked No. 12 in the nation, will try to pull off an upset of No. 3 seed Cristina Moros and Sandy Sureephong of Texas in the quarterfinals today at 1:00 p.m. (EDT). It is the second meeting this year for the two teams. The Longhorn duo, ranked No. 4 in the nation, upended the Cal tandem, 8-2 in a dual match on March 24. This is Cal's fourth appearance in the NCAA doubles quarterfinal in the past seven years.
