CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - California sophomore third baseman Xavier Nady continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs and three RBI to lead the USA National Baseball Team (15-13) to a 15-5 victory over Mexico July 26 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Americans ended up winning eight of nine outings versus Mexico this summer. Nady, who leads Team USA in home runs with 10, hit seven home runs against the Mexican team this summer.
Cal's sophomore catcher Mike Tonis also had a big day against Mexico Monday, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
With his big day against Mexico, Nady continues to lead Team USA in hitting, batting .420 (42-for-100) with six doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, 29 RBI and a .800 slugging percentage. Nady leads the Americans in average, runs scored, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage.
Tonis has the Team USA's fourth highest average, batting .328 (21-for-64) with four doubles, a triple, six home runs, 14 RBI and a .703 slugging percentage.
The USA National Team next takes on the Colorado Rockies rookies July 28, the Arizona Diamondbacks rookies July 29 and the Chicago White Sox rookies July 30. Team USA's schedule goes till August 6-18, when it competes at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, KS.
