BEARS LOOK FOR STRONG PAC-10 FINISH: Cal competes in the 41st annual Pac-10 Championships
Monday-Wednesday, April 24-26, in Tempe, Ariz. The 10 teams will play 36 holes on Monday, April 24th followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, April 25th, and Wednesday, April 26th. Play begins at 7:30 a.m. on the par 72, 7,026-yard Karsten Golf Course. The tournament is hosted by the University of Arizona State.
TOURNAMENT FACTS: Arizona State has won the past five Pac-10 Championships, a conference record, while ASU's Paul Casey has won the past two individual titles, including a collegiate low of 60 in the final round last year at the Broadmoor Country Club in Seattle. Casey also carded a Pac-10 record score of 15-under 265 and he will try to become the first Pac-10 player to win three straight titles, as Sherman Finger of USC accomplished the feat back in 1964-66, when eight teams competed for the title.
MOST RECENTLY: In the ASU/Thunderbird Invitational April 15-16, Cal finished 10th amid a strong 17-team field. Individually, senior co-captains Robert Hamilton and Han Lee led the way for the Golden Bears, finishing 25th and 38th respectively.
1999 PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIP IN REVIEW: Arizona State led from start to finish at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle on April 26-28, 1999, to claim its fifth straight Pac-10 title with a 21-stroke victory over UCLA.
BEARS LINEUP: Cal's Pac-10 lineup features in order: senior Robert Hamilton, senior Hahn Lee, freshman James Hahn, freshman Jesse Ruda and junior Xabi Laduche. Sophomore Walter Chun will compete for the Bears as an individual.
