EDWARDS STADIUM DEDICATION SET FOR SATURDAY
A dedication ceremony is slated for April 8 at approximately 12:30 p.m., to honor the Goldman family for its contributions towards keeping historic Edwards Stadium as one of the premier track and field facilities in the nation. Attendees at the dedication include Chancellor Berdahl, Athletic Director John Kasser, Head Coach Erv Hunt and Richard Goldman.
After a year competing off campus, Cal returns home this week to Edwards Stadium, which opened in 1932 as the only stadium in the world built for track & field only. The stadium recently underwent a $3.5 million renovation, which included reconfiguring the 400-meter oval with 85-meter straightaways, installation of a top polyurethane all-weather surface and the conversion of the infield into a regulation size soccer field, among other improvements. The lead gift of $1.5 million came from Richard Goldman (class '41) and his late wife Rhoda (class '46). In recognition of their tremendous contribution, the field at Edwards Stadium has been named Goldman Field in honor of Richard's father, Richard Samuel Goldman.
