Men's gymnastics coach Barry Weiner and women's gymnastics coach Trina Tinti have both been honored for their coaching accomplishments.
Weiner, who recently guided Cal to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA championships, has been named an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic team that will compete in Sydney over the summer. The 1997 National Coach of the Year and a three-time conference coach of the year, Weiner led the Bears to NCAA titles in both 1997 and '98.
After leading Cal to a fifth-place finish at the Pac-10 championships last month - the team's highest finish since 1990 - Tinti was selected the NCAA Region I Coach of the Year. During the 2000 season, the Bears set school records in almost every team and individual category and improved their record to 9-8 from 6-15 in 1999.
