Opelika, AL -
The Cal men's golf team struggled to a 12-over-par score of 300 on the first day of the NCAA Championships held at the Grand National Golf Course in Opelika, AL on Wednesday. The Bears stand in 29th place in the 30-team field and have a lot of ground to make up on Thursday if they hope to be one of just 15 teams to advance to the final two rounds of the tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Cal was led by senior Robert Hamilton who posted a one-under score of 71, while freshman J.R. Ruda and sophomore Walter Chun both carded scores of 75. Freshman James Hahn was two minutes late for his starting time on the first team and received a two-stroke penalty. He went on to record a 79 while Cal senior Co-captain Han Lee really had problems, as he posted his worth individual round of the spring with a 81 score.
