Cal sophomore Jerriod Mack has been named Pac-10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his contributions towards the Golden Bears success in the Big Meet May 6.
Less than three weeks after undergoing an emergency appendectomy, Mack returned to competition against Stanford. He won the triple jump with a near personal-best 51-4.5 and placed second in the long jump with a mark of 23-7.5. His eight points were critical in Cal's narrow victory (84-79) in the Big Meet - its 28th Big Meet win in 29 years.
Mack joins sophomore Jennifer Joyce as Cal Pac-10 athletes of the week during the 2000 track and field season. Joyce was the women's first field athlete of the week (April 10) this year.
