The Cal men's "Henley eight" advanced to the semifinal round in the Ladies' Challenge Plate event at the Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-On-Thames, England, June 30. The Bears defeated Trident R.C. of South Africa by a deck-length or about 5 feet. Cal's lineup consists of six oarsmen and a coxswain from the undefeated Pac-10 and 2000 IRA national champion varsity eight as well two members of Cal's Pac-10 and IRA national champion freshman eight.

Cal will race again on Saturday and face the winner of the Tara R.C, Ireland vs Brown University, USA race.
