SACRAMENTO -
California was well represented at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, July 14-23, in Sacramento. There were many strong performances by Golden Bears from the past and present, but in the end, two Cal athletes placed in the top three to earn spots on the U.S. Track and Field team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Chris Huffins, a 1993 alum, finished second in the decathlon with 8,285 points, earning a trip to his second-consecutive Olympics. In 1996, Huffins placed 10th in the decathlon in Atlanta with 8300 points. Sheila Hudson, a 1990 alum, also placed second in the triple jump (45-8.5), but she must meet the Olympic "A" standard of 46-5.25 by Sept. 11 to be eligible to also compete in consecutive Olympics. In 1996, Hudson took 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 46-0.
