BERKELEY - The University of California athletic department has received a generous gift from the Brian and Jennifer Maxwell family to resurface Kleeberger Field, a multi-use facility adjacent to Memorial Stadium on the Berkeley campus, Cal Athletic Director Steve Gladstone announced today.

Gladstone also announced that Kleeberger Field will be closed, beginning Monday, May 20, to allow preparation work for the replacement of the venue's artificial playing surface later this summer. The facility, which is utilized by intercollegiate athletics, club and intramural sports, the Cal Band and informal student recreation, is scheduled to reopen some time this fall.

"Kleeberger Field is truly one of the University's outstanding resources," said Gladstone. "Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Maxwell family, thousands of Cal students and campus members will benefit greatly from this significant upgrade of the facility."
