The California men's golf team fired a final round of 289 Tuesday afternoon at the 57th annual Western Intercollegiate to tie for seventh place in the 18-team three-day tournament hosted by San Jose State. Entering the last 18 holes in 13th place after carding rounds of 303-293, the Golden Bears finished 45-over par for a final team total of 885.

Freshman Michael Wilson paced the Bears for the second consecutive tournament, placing seventh with rounds of 76-68-68-212, entering the final round in 16th place.

UCLA won the tournament, carding rounds of 283-280-292-855 for a dominating 15-under par total. The Bruins' Steve Conway won individual medalist honors with a 2-under-par 208 (72-67-69), one stroke ahead of second place finisher, Matt Hansen of Pacific (71-69-69-209).

Rounding out the Cal squad is junior Peter Tomasulo, tying for 30th place (73-74-75-222), freshman Eric West tied for 57th (79-75-74-228), sophomore Chris Ancheta tied for 68th (75-84-72-231) and sophomore Jeff Hood tied for 72nd (79-76-77-232).

Next up, the Bears travel to Stanford to compete in the U.S. Intercollegiate, April 19-20.
