BERKELEY -
Cal field hockey standout Nora Feddersen, a two-time NorPac Conference Player of the Year, has been named to the second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American squad in the women's at-large division.
A mass communications major with a 3.74 GPA, Feddersen was a second team All-American this past fall when she guided the Bears to the NorPac title and the first round of the NCAA Tournament. A four-time all-league choice, she finished her playing career as Cal's all-time leader in both goals (45) and total points (103).
Also a member of the 2003 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic squad, Feddersen received a Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship this past spring.
Feddersen is the third Golden Bear to earn Academic All-America honors this spring, joining male counterparts Scott Carlyle (golf, first team) and Attila Banhidy (water polo, second team).
Overall, 15 student-athletes are named to the first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America squads in the at-large category, which includes all sports except volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball and track & field.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 and have reached sophomore standing. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
