BERKELEY, CA - 
The University of California women's water polo program has signed high school standouts Remy Champion and Shelby Keyser to national letters of intent, it was announced today by head coach Amber Drury-Pinto.
Champion is a 5-8 attacker from Palo Alto High School, where she was three-time first team All-Central Coast Section. She was also a four-time first team all-league pick and SCVAL league MVP in 2003 and 2004. Champion has been a member several Junior Olympic All-America teams and was a 2004 Senior National Championship All-American. In 2005, Champion was a recipient of the Central Coast Section Scholar-Athlete Award.
An outstanding swimmer as well, Champion placed first in the SCVAL 100 freestyle in 2004, competed in the 200 and 400 free relay, and helped her swim team to league titles in 2003 and 2004.
Keyser is a 5-8 attacker from Poway High School, where she was three-time first team All-CIF San Diego Section, and a two-time member of the San Diego Union Tribune All Media Team. Keyser helped Poway to a CIF title in 2002 and CIF runner-up finishes in 2004 and 2005.
As a member of the San Diego Shores Water Polo Club, Keyser was the Co-MVP of the National Junior Olympics in the summer of 2004, and helped her squad to National Junior Olympic titles in 2001, 2002 and 2004. She has been a member of several Junior Olympic All-America teams as well.
"These are two talented players, and we are looking forward to both their quickness and enthusiasm," said Drury-Pinto. "Remy is the type of player who never says `die' and is always a gamer. Shelby is an outstanding passer with great vision, and will be a key assist player for us."
