California sophomore Elsie Windes has been selected to the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Tournament Team, as well as second team All-MPSF, it was announced by Al Beaird, executive director of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The all-tournament and all-conference squads were picked by the league's head coaches following the MPSF Tournament, held Apr. 28-May 1 at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Windes, a standout all-arounder from Portland, Ore., was the Golden Bears' leading scorer with 51 goals this season, including five goals in the MPSF Tournament and two goals in Cal's 8-4 victory over No. 5-ranked Long Beach State in the tournament's fifth-place match. She was the Bears' leading scorer in 11 matches this season and has now tallied 84 goals in two years.
This past January, Windes was a member of the USA Junior National Team that won a gold medal at the 2005 FINA Junior World Championship in Perth, Australia. Last season as a freshman, she was named honorable mention All-America, was second team All-MPSF and a member of the 2004 MPSF All-Freshman Team.
The 2005 Cal women's water polo squad, in its third season under head coach Amber Drury-Pinto, finished 18-10 overall, 6-6 in the MPSF. The Bears were fifth in MPSF Tournament, defeating San Jose State (7-5) in the opening round, falling to Stanford (7-3) in the quarterfinals, defeating San Diego State (9-7) in the semifinals and topping Long Beach State (8-4) for fifth place. Junior Allison Gold was Cal's leading scorer at the MPSF Tournament with nine goals in the four matches. Gold was second on the Bears' scoring list this season with 44 goals.
