BERKELEY -
Pool B of the national collegiate rugby playoffs commenced Friday on Witter Rugby Field, with the Cal Poly Mustangs over Minnesota 34-10 and Brigham Young beating Wyoming 31-10.
Minnesota will square off against Wyoming in the Pool B consolation match tomorrow at 2 p.m., followed by the Round of 8 rematch between BYU and Cal Poly. The winner will fill a slot at the national semifinals, to be held at Stanford May 4.
California gets underway with its playoff journey in Pool A at 10 a.m. tomorrow, when the Golden Bears take on New Mexico, followed by Harvard vs. San Diego State at noon. The winners of those matches will vie on Sunday at 2 p.m. for a second semifinal slot, preceded at noon by the Pool A consolation game.
Kicking off later on Friday were Pool C and D matches hosted by Penn State.
