Cal Men's Water Polo Announces 2007 Recruiting Class

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The 2006 NCAA Champion University of California men's water polo program welcomes in 10 new student-athletes who will join the Golden Bears for the 2007 season, it was announced today by head coach Kirk Everist. Among Cal's 2007 recruiting class is a member of the USA Junior National Team (Zachary White), a member of the Kazakhstan Junior National Team (Vladislav Andreyev), and six members of the USA Youth National Team. All 10 members of the Bears' 2007 recruiting class have earned All-America accolades.

"We are very excited about our incoming class," said Everist, who led Cal to the program's 12th national title in December with a last second 7-6 victory over USC. "This a very deep, versatile and talented group. We have seven players graduate from the 2006 national championship team and we have six more players poised to graduate after the 2007 season. With this class, I feel very confident in the future of our program."

Below is a brief bio of each member of the Bears' 2007 recruiting class:

Vladislav Andreyev: Andreyev is a 6-2, 195-pound two-meter defender from Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. He was a 2006 first-team Community College All-American at Diablo Valley Community College in Concord, and is a member of the Kazakhstan Junior National Team.

Mike Berry: Berry, a 6-0, 185-pound left-handed driver, is from Corona del Mar, Calif. He was a third-team High School All-American at Corona del Mar High School.

Travis Bickham: A 6-2, 205-pound utility player, Bickham is from Atherton, Calif., and was a fifth-team High School All-American at St. Francis Prep.

Zachary Greenwood: Greenwood is a 6-3, 215-pound utility player from Sanger, Calif. A member of the USA Youth National Team, he was also a first-team High School All-American at Buchanan High School in Fresno.

Cory Nasoff: Nasoff, a 6-2, 185-pound driver, is from San Diego and attends Torrey Pines High School. He was a third-team High School All-American and is a member of the USA Youth National Team.

Brian Roach: Roach is a 6-6, 210-pound two-meter defender from Aptos, Calif. He was a 10th-team All-American at Soquel High School and is a member of the USA Youth National Team.

Jackson Sharf; A fourth-team High School All-American, Sharf is a 6-0, 185-pound two-meter defender from Orinda and attends Miramonte High School. He is a member of the USA Youth National Team and the younger brother of junior All-American Michael Sharf, the second-leading scorer on the Bears' 2006 national championship squad.

Jack Stampfl: A fourth-team High School All-American, Stampfl is a 6-5, 205-pound two-meter man from Davis High School in Davis, Calif. He is a member of the USA Youth National Team as well.

Charles Steffens: Steffens, a 6-2, 185-pound driver, is from Danville and attends Monte Vista High School, where he was a fourth-team High School All-American. A member of the USA Youth National Team, he is the son of Carlos Steffens, a three-time All-American water polo player at Cal who led the Bears to the 1977 NCAA title and was the 1979 Pac-10 Player of the Year.

Zachary White: White is a 6-4, 215-pound left-hander two-meter man from Mission Viejo, Calif. A member of the USA Junior National Team, he was also a first-team High School All-American at El Toro High School.
