BERKELEY - Alex Morgan netted a hat trick in the Golden Bears' 5-1 win over Oregon on Sunday at Edwards Stadium, making the sophomore forward the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
Morgan's first goal against the Ducks came just under two minutes into the game on a fast break and an assist from freshman midfielder Katrin Omarsdottir. Her second score was at 29:30 on a shot to the right corner with Jesolva dishing out her second assist of the game. Six minutes later, Morgan headed a shot into the left side thanks to a pass from senior defender Nkechi Kanu.
Morgan tied her personal career best for goals in a game against Oregon, pacing the Bears with five shots (three on goal) and six points. Morgan also had a team-high six shots in Friday's 1-0 win over Oregon State. She now leads the team in goals scored with eight on the season.
The Bears, who improved to 8-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10, outshot their opponents by double digits this weekend for the third and fourth consecutive game.
