Hexner Advances to U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Devin Hexner has advanced to the sectional qualifying rounds as an amateur for the 2009 U.S. Open with a finish of 71 (-1) at the Ruby Hill Golf Club.

The freshman from San Francisco will compete in 36 holes June 8 at Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif., to qualify for the 2009 U.S. Open. at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., June 15 - 21.

"I'm energized and really focused on making the U.S. Open," Hexner said. "It's a great opportunity."

Hexner will be joined in the field at Saticoy by 2008 Cal grad Brandon Beck, who qualified with a one-under par 69 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., and former Cal All-American and current PGA Tour Pro Charlie Wi.

The final number of qualifying spots available at the sectionals may not be announced until the day of play. Sectional qualifying, played over 36 holes, will be conducted at two international sites (Japan and England) on May 25 and 13 sites in the United States on June 8.

The Saticoy course, at 6,984 yards with a par of 72, has a rating of 75.1 and slope of 143.

Hexner's 71 at Ruby Hill put him in a two-way tie for 6th to qualify. Bears teammate John Murphy was one stroke away from forcing a three-way playoff, as the top-six golfers qualified for the sectionals.
