California Golden Bear Diane Kwon won the 79th Annual Long Beach City Golf Championship in Southern California, shooting a three-under in the two day tournament to earn the medalist honors. The tournament, held June 18 and 19 at the Recreation Park and El Dorado Park courses, was the first victory of the summer for Kwon, but the second for Cal golfers. Teammate Pia Halbig won the Slovenian International Ladies Amateur Championship at the beginning of June.
In other summer golf news, Cal alum Sophia Sheridan qualified for the US Women's Open and Coach McDaniel will be caddying for her. The US Women's Open will take place July 9-12 at Saucon Valley Golf Course in Bethlehem, Penn.
Another Bear alum, Sofie Andersson, shot -11 at the Michelob Ultra Duramed Futures Players Championship in Decatur Illinois but lost in a playoff to Mina Harigae to end up with a second place finish.
