BERKELEY - Hana Cutura was instrumental in guiding the Golden Bears to a 2-1 mark at the Nevada Marriott Courtyard/Fairfield Invitational to make the senior All-America outside hitter the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
Cutura poured in 56 kills and registered a .307 attack percentage (17e, 127att) over the three-match weekend. She averaged 4.67 kps and was also impressive defensively with a 2.17 digs per set average (26 total digs). In addition, she posted seven total blocks (three solo, four assisted). In Cal's 3-1 victory over Saint Mary's College, Cutura notched a double-double with 21 kills and 10 digs to go with four blocks. In the Bears' 3-0 sweep of Connecticut, Cutura ravaged the Husky defense to the tune of 16 kills in just 29 attempts to log a .414 attack rate.
Cutura's leadership as a captain helped steady the Bears after a stunning five-set loss to tournament champion UC Irvine. Her calming presence and consistent play on the court helped pull the best out of a relatively young Bear team.
