Bears Sweep Stanford Invitational
Competing for the first time since March, Cal had a perfect weekend at the Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores last weekend. The Golden Bears won all races they competed in over the two-day event. The varsity 8+ picked up three victories over the weekend. The closest win came against Wisconsin, with the Bears topping the Badgers by just three seconds, 5:39.5-5:42.3. The most convincing win was against Michigan. Cal cruised past the Wolverines, 5:51.9, 2-6:10.2. The second varsity 8+ beat Wisconsin by five seconds, 5:43.4-5:48.0, and Oregon State, 6:00.3-6:14.5. The Bears also posted a commanding victory over Michigan, 5:56.4-6:20.5.
Last Year Against Washington
Cal's top-ranked varsity 8+ lost to Washington's fourth-ranked varsity 8+, 5:48.56-5:50.86, in the race for the Schoch Cup. The host Huskies won all four races against the Bears.
A Look at the Cal-Washington Rivalry
Since 1903, Washington leads the all-time series in the Schoch Cup, 67-30-1, and the Huskies have won the last three years in a row. Since 1999, the Bears have won six times (1999, 2000, 01, 03, 05, 06).
Teti Inducted Into Hall of Fame
Head Coach Mike Teti and assistant coach Wyatt Allen were inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame at Mystic Seaport, Conn. on March 20, 2010. Teti was honored as the coach of the gold medal-winning men¹s eight at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and Allen was honored as one of the oarsmen in that gold medal-winning eight. Teti became the first person to be inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame as both an athlete and a coach. Also inducted into the hall of fame was alumnus Peter Cipollone, who coxed the gold-medal winning men's eight that Allen rowed on.
