(VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA) - Former Cal quarterback Kevin Riley has signed with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League the team announced on Thursday. Riley will attend the BC Lions rookie camp slated to begin on June 2 in Kamloops, BC.
Riley completed 468-of-844 passes (55.5%) for 6,182 yards, with 50 touchdown passes and 21 interceptions in 36 games played as a member of the Cal football program from 2006-10. He posted a 19-12 record in 31 start. His career included a string of 21 straight starts that included all 13 games as a junior in 2009 and the first eight during his 2010 senior campaign before suffering a knee injury in the eighth game of his final season that ended his collegiate career.
He finished ranked among Cal's all-time leaders in several categories, including touchdown passes (No. 5), total offense (6,136, No. 6), passer efficiency (131.6, No. 7), passing yardage (No. 8), 300-yard passing games (2, No. 9-T) and 250-yard passing games (7, No. 10). He also had 148 rushing attempts for -46 yards and five TDs on the ground, as well as one reception for six yards and two tackles. Riley had a couple of impressive streaks in addition to his string of 21 consecutive starts, throwing for at least one touchdown in 11 consecutive contests spanning the final eight games of 2009 and the first three contest of 2010, while also posting a string of 118 consecutive passes without an interception that began in 2008 and lasted four games into 2009.
Riley's most impressive season statistically came as a junior in 2009 when he started all 13 games and completed 209-of-382 passes (54.7%) for 2,850 yards, with 18 touchdown throws and eight interceptions (all career-highs). His 2,850 yards of passing and 2,901 yards of total offense both rank as the fourth-highest single-season totals in school history, while his 18 TD passes are tied for 10th on the school's single-season list and were fourth in the Pac-10 in 2009. He was also among the Pac-10's per-game leaders in passing yards (219.2, 4th) and total offense (223.2, 6th), and had a passer efficiency rating of 128.7 to rank sixth in the conference.
