BERKELEY - Golden Bear fans can now take a first-hand look at the Memorial Stadium construction through a publicly-accessible vista point along the east side of the facility.
The vista point, which will be open during construction hours, is located near the northeast corner of the facility off Stadium Rim Way and just below Tightwad Hill. Normal construction hours for the project are 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and numerous Sundays.
After opening in 1923, Memorial Stadium is undergoing a renovation and seismic retrofit and is scheduled to reopen prior to the 2012 football season. The effort will bring the stadium up to modern standards and create a more enjoyable environment for the hundreds of thousands of fans who attend games each year - all while maintaining the architecture and character of the celebrated structure.
While Memorial Stadium is under construction, the Golden Bears will move to AT&T Park for their home games this fall, in addition to playing a neutral-site game vs. Fresno State in the TicketCity Battle by the Bay at Candlestick Park on Sept. 3. Season tickets and Battle by the Bay tickets can be purchased online at CalBears.com or by calling the Cal Athletic Ticket Office at (800) GO BEARS.
