Six Golden Bears are ranked among the top 25 in the country in eight different events, including top-rated Deborah Maier in the women's 10,000 meters, according to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (tfrrs.org).
Maier broke Cal's 27-year-old school record in the 10K with her time of 32:12.47 at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford Sunday night. The mark makes her the No. 3 all-time NCAA performer at the distance. Earlier this year, Maier ran the fastest indoor 5000 meters in the nation (15:29.24).
Two Cal athletes are listed in two events - Collin Jarvis in the 3000-meter steeplechase and 5000 meters, and Hammed Suleman in the long jump and triple jump.
Jarvis is 25th in the steeple after winning the Big Meet in 8:54.06, while he is 16th in the 5000 from his 13:42.31 time at the Stanford Invitational in early April.
Suleman recorded both of his marks at the Jim Click Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., March 31. He soared to a PR 25-5.25 in the long jump and went 52-1.25 in the triple jump.
Malaina Payton ranks sixth in the women's long jump with her wind-aided distance of 21-6.25 from the Big Meet.
Other Bears in the top 25 are Chelsea Reilly (18th, women's 5000m, 15:57.53) and Brian Carmichael (19th, men's high jump, 7-2.25).
The Pac-12 Championships are set for May 12-13 in Eugene, Ore., while the Bears also have their sights set on qualifying for the national championships in early June. The NCAA West Preliminary meet is May 24-26 in Austin, Texas, with the NCAA meet scheduled for June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.
