Cal Baseball Names Pat Shine as Volunteer Coach

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Pat Shine, an assistant baseball coach at San Francisco City College and a former standout player at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, has been named volunteer baseball coach at the University of California, it was announced by associate head coach David Lawn.

Shine had been an assistant at San Francisco City College since 1996 and is currently an assistant coach for the Topeka Capitals, a semi-pro baseball team in the Jayhawk League in Topeka, KS. Prior to coaching at San Francisco City College, Shine was the head baseball coach at Gonzaga Prep High School from 1995-96, and the head coach for the Washington Trust American Legion Baseball team from 1992-95.

A 1995 graduate of Gonzaga, Shine earned a bachelor of arts degree in speech communication with a minor in business management. As a senior infielder and team captain, he helped lead Gonzaga to a second-place finish in the Pacific-10 Conference Northern Division, batting .320 for coach Steve Hertz.
