Cal Jumps Into Win Column
HONOLULU -- Aaron Gordnier drove in three runs and Jim Fischer
went five solid innings as the California Golden Bears evened their
season mark at 1-1 with a 6-5 victory.
The Bears led 6-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth, before Jon
Shirley came in to secure the win, getting his first save of the year.
Cal third baseman Dan Garfin had two hits, drove in two and scored two,
while first baseman John Furstenthal collected two of the Bears 11 hits.
Greg Millichap led the Rainbows (1-7) attack, smacking his second home
run of the year and knocking in two. Hawaii starter Jamie Aloy dropped
to 0-3, allowed four earned runs in seven innnings.
Fischer (1-0) gave up four hits and walked just one before turning it
over to Ryland Sumner and Jon Cuccias, who combined to allow one
unearned run in three innings.
The Bears return to the diamond Friday when they meet Hawaii in the
second of the three-game set.
