Bears Bring Home Second Title

COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. - The California men's golf team came from behind in the final round of the 26th annual Pacific Invitational Tuesday, Sept. 23, shooting a blistering fifteen-under par 849 to grab the tournament title. The victory was the Bears second straight this season as they were champions of the Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational Sept. 12-13.

After Monday's first two rounds, the Bears stood in third place with a team score of 567, six stokes behind tournament leader Nevada. But, Cal fired a six-under 282 in today's final round to finish play with a 849 overall score, two better than second-place finisher Nevada (851).

Individually, the Bears were paced by sophomore standout Dong Yi who shot an eight-under 208 (73-67-38) to finish in fourth place overall. Junior Dan Arroyo (66-73-70) finished in a tie with Stanford sensation Joel Kribel for fifth place with a three-round total of 209. Junior Dan Coyle (70-73-73), who led the Bears at the Falcon Invitational, finished at even-par 216, good for 27th place tie. Junior Jay Berkowitz (71-77-72 = 220) and sophomore Han Lee (74-74-72 = 220) came in a tie for 45th place.
