Sun Devils Get Best of Bears
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The California Golden Bears women's gymnastics
team gave it a good effort, but came up short against the Arizona
State Sun Devils, who won their fifth in a row, 195.95-192.925.
Amy Shelton led the Sun Devils, winning the all-around competition
with a new career high of 39.55. Wendy Ellsberry placed second in the
all-around with a 38.925.
Golden Bear Leila Khoury took third in the all-around
with a score of 38.875. Candice Kwok scored a 9.9 on the vault for
Cal, while teammate Mindy Ornellas scored a 9.9 on the floor.
Arizona State's Carie Courtney scored a 9.9 on the vault, a season
high. Also, freshman Michelle Hess broke her career high on the vault
with a 9.85.
The Golden Bears head to Lincoln, Neb., on Sunday, when they will compete
in a quad-meet against these Sun Devils, Eastern Michigan and the host
Cornhuskers.
