Bialosky, Khoury Lead Cal To Second-Place Finish
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 20 Cal women's gymnastics team remained undefeated at 3-0 against non-conference competition but slipped to 0-2 against Pac-10 opponents as the No. 6 Oregon State Beavers out pointed the Bears 193.200-189.250 at the Wilson Motors Challenges in Corvallis on Friday evening.
Cal's strongest performance came from Jennifer Bialosky who ended the evening third overall in the all-around with a score of 37.650 while Leila Khoury finished fifth.
In individual competition, Bialosky placed second on vault with her 9.775 while Christine Nishimoto led the Bears with a 9.725 on bars. In Cal's strongest events, beam and floor, the Bears placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Missing for the Bears this evening was the usual strong preformance from senior Mindy Ornellas who ranks amongst Cal's all-time top performers, as well as Candice Kwok, who did not travel due to minor injuries. Kwok is expected to re-enter the starting linup in time for next week's competition at UCLA with BYU, Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
