Greg Connell is in his third year as coach of the Bears distance freestyle and individual medley group. Connell has been coaching for nearly 30 years from high school, to club teams, to NCAA Champions. He was a member of the coaching staff at Cal in the late '70s and early '80s when the Bears won back-to-back NCAA titles in 1979 and '80, and after 18 years of coaching in Sweden, Connell has come back to Berkeley.
While in Sweden, Connell worked at the University of Lund, a sister university to the University of California. He helped place 20 swimmers on the Swedish National A Team, and nearly 40 others on age-group and Junior National Teams. During the late '80s and early '90s, Connell's squads won 13 consecutive Swedish National Championships and established numerous national and European records.
