One of Europe's most successful players for more than a decade, Christensen enters his third year with the California men's tennis program after returning to the Golden Bears last season. Prior to his return to the program, Christensen assisted Coach Wright at Cal during the 1999-00 season.
Between his two stints with the Bears, he was the national head coach in Denmark from 2000-06, coaching all members of the National Tennis Centre and Danish national teams.
Before coming to California, Christensen had been a fixture in Danish tennis since 1984, winning 17 Danish national titles (five singles, 12 doubles), and representing his nation in the Davis Cup from 1984-96. The Copenhagen native's distinguished pro career (1986-93) included wins over such ATP stars as Thomas Muster, Goran Ivanisevic, Emilio Sanchez, Magnus Gustavsson and Martin Damm.
Christensen also won five ATP Challenger tournaments in doubles, and represented Denmark in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, reaching the doubles quarterfinal.
Immediately before joining the Bear program, Christensen was a member of the Danish Tennis Federation's executive committee from 1995-99, where his responsibilities included overseeing the National Tennis Centre and the Danish Elite Tennis Program. He holds the Danish Tennis Federation's highest coaching diploma and was also in charge of sales, marketing and promotion for Penn balls and Prince rackets in Denmark.
Christensen resides in Berkeley, with his wife, Dorte, and his daughters, Sarah and Julie.
