A junior IMer/freestyler/backstroker from The Pas, Manitoba, Canada...as a sophomore (1997) had a phenomenal NCAA meet, helping set three school records and leading Cal to a ninth-place national finish...placed second nationally in the 100 back with a school record 53.29 (fifth-fastest performer in short course history in that event), was third in the 200 back (1:56.30, second-best all-time Cal mark behind former world record holder Anna Simcic) and fourth in the 200 IM with a school-record 1:58.81 (first Cal woman to ever swim under 2:00.00 in the 200 IM)...was also a member of the Bears 400 medley relay (backstroke leg), which set a school record (3:43.50) at the NCAAs (10th), as well as setting a Cal dual meet record (3:48.53) Jan. 24 at the University of Arizona (butterfly leg)...helped lead the Bears to a seventh-place finish in the 800 free relay, a 10th place finish in the 400 free relay (49.81 lead-off split) and a 12th-place finish in the 200 medley relay at the NCAA meet, as well...was the seventh-highest individual scorer at the NCAA meet with 48 points...at the Pac-10 meet placed second in the 200 IM and third in both the 100 fly and 200 back...was named team MVP for the second year in a row...is on the Cal all-time Top 10 list in seven different individual events...as a freshman (1996) earned team MVP honors, producing the Bears top times in the 200 free (1:47.62, sixth-best all-time Cal mark), 100 free (50.80), 50 free (23.74), 100 fly (55.59), 200 IM (2:00.71) and 400 IM (4:20.94)...earned All-America honors in the 200 back (1:58.87), placing sixth at the NCAA Championship...also earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 IM (ninth) and 200 free (ninth)...was a member of all of Cal's top relay teams in 1996, helping lead the Bears to a 14th place finish in the 400 medley and 800 free relay at the NCAA meet...at Winnipeg Collegiate High School swam for the Canadian National team at the Pan-Pacific meet in the summer of 1995, competing in the 200 meter freestyle and posting a time of 2:02.67...world ranked in four events--200 and 400 IM, 200 free in short course meters, and 200 free in long course meters...competed for the Manta Swim Club and was the 1995 Canadian National Champion in the 400 IM, swimming a short course meter time of 4:42.36...also earned bronze medals in the 200 IM (2:16.00) and 200 free (2:01.22)...was a member of the Canadian National Youth Team that competed in Sweden in 1992...competed on the Canadian National Junior Team from 1994-95...sister, Carol, swims at McGill University in Montreal...undeclared major with an interest in integrative biology...parents are Ping and Chin Chiang of The Pas, Manitoba, Canada...born 11/19/77 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
